No referral is required for most commercial PPO, POS, and EPO plans.
From student-athletes at Rowlett and Sunnyvale ISD schools to workers recovering from on-the-job injuries and active-duty military families covered by TRICARE, our team is honored to serve the full breadth of the communities around us.

Diagnosis Methods

Diagnosing the reason for your pain may be a multi-step process and can include physical examinations, medical imaging techniques, and simple blood tests. Dr. Hibbitts then customizes your treatment based on these results. Only then can you truly begin to heal.

Injury & Pain Treatments

Working with the team at the Sunnyvale Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery Center, you may recover from your injury with nonsurgical treatments, or require surgery to eliminate pain and return to normal function.

  • Nonsurgical treatments can be performed at home or under the supervision of a medical professional. These include “RICE” treatment (Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation), physical therapy, cortisone injections, and anti-inflammatory and pain management medications.
  • Surgical treatments are performed at our operating center, often on an outpatient basis. Many surgeries can be performed arthroscopically.

How to Prepare for Ankle, Knee, Hip, or Shoulder Surgery

As a full-service Dallas area orthopedic surgery center, we care for you before, during, and after surgery. Depending on your specific surgery, instructions may differ. Always consult with Dr. Hibbitts and his team about your individual procedure and needs.

1

Before Surgery

  • Follow precautions and instructions regarding mobility and physical exertion.
  • Take any prescriptions from your doctor.
  • Do not eat or drink (more than a small amount of water with medications) after midnight on the day of the surgery.
2

Immediately After Surgery

  • Joint may be stabilized with brace, cast, or bandages
  • Begin supervised manipulation (movement) of the joint within first 24 hours
3

In the Days Following Surgery

  • Keep the incision site clean and dry. Pain, swelling, and redness should decrease over time and with administration of your post-operation prescriptions. Monitor for signs of infection.
  • Minimize movement and perform mobility exercises only under supervision.
  • When recommended, use a walker or cane in addition to the cast or brace.
4

In the Weeks Following Surgery

  • Most patients begin a physical therapy program within a week after surgery. This program can last 3 to 6 months for full recovery.
  • Schedule and attend your follow-up appointments with your orthopedic team to assess your progress.

Potential Complications from Surgery

Complications and side-effects from orthopedic surgery are minimal. But, no surgery is without risk. The most common post-operation complications include:

  • Infection
  • Scar tissue
  • Blood clots
  • Problems with prosthetics
  • Continued pain (rare)
  • Neurovascular injury (rare)

Our orthopedic surgeon and his team are ready to welcome and treat you. Contact the Sunnyvale Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery Center today.
